If the Fort Max reissue comes with the Master Swords, then I'll be in two minds if I would want it. The swords would be nice to have, but I might be more inclined to use that money to get the missing Cerebros handgun I need for my vintage one.

A Grand Maximus reissue with Pretender shell and all... now *that* would be something! Space and money would be my only issue, then...

How much did RiD Max retail ten years ago?

RiD Max was about $150 in 2003-2004, I remember passing on him for that price (doh!). I'd expect a reissue at about $250.

I'm excited for MP Sideswipe mostly because it means that MP Sunstreaker is pretty much given and I really want him, and it also means a MP Prowl/Smokescreen isn't impossible.

Also excited for a possible MP Soundwave and the Hot Spot repaint of Inferno, even if it isn't the best possible mold for him

I would really love to see that MP Sideswipe in colour, for the mold looks really good at the moment. ^__^

I was going: oh, too bad I won't be able to own MP10... and then I remembered he's going to be released in a much cheaper version.

Sideswipe looks a bit small, he'll be much smaller than Rodimus or Alternators. I guess if you consider Rodimus to be RP and not Hot Rod, it works out.

This also means that I'll need to find another place for MP1. Maybe him and Megatron alone in the abandoned scale collection. Poor guys.

That shot of Sideswipe looks like a CGI render rather than a photo of a prototype (notice the lack of shadows inside his backpack)?

I am a bit disappointed by this image - I am really hoping that the clear plastics on his back can make him look less "boxy" as he does here. I am optimistic about his size, though, as that would only have a positive effect on the price level.

Hmmmm. At the moment the price for Sideswipe is about 160$ in BBTS. Thought it will most likely change, but how much can be only speculated atm.

At that size, even with lots of diecast (and hopefully chromed rims and rubber tires and all the trimmings) and perhaps an expensive Lambo licence fee I think the final price will be much closer to the $100 mark.

At least I hope so :-)

Anything more than $100, I'll have to consider just waiting for the Hasbro version as he isn't a huge favourite to begin with. Around 7000 yen would be a decent price, compared to Binaltechs and allowing for inflation. Obviously Americans will be complaining, but the dollar is also worth a LOT less than in 2004-2006.

While Soundwave himself looks amazing, I'm completely thrown away at how good that Laserbeak looks! It even appears to have a panel on the top of it's head. One could speculate that it opens up to reveal the camera from TF:TM. Seeing how TakaraTomy promised to release more MP Cassettes, if they keep the same standard as Laserbeak, I'm going to be so poor!

Shame that the price has gone up, with the list price being 16 590 yen (roughly $200).

I'm wondering if Soundwave has any multimedia functions, or if all those buttons are just fakes. I never got a mini-SD for my Music Label so it would be cool.

And Laserbeak indeed has a camera there - note the hole for a pin on the side of his head. It's also rather cool that the thrusters are self-contained this time around.

I like how they've made subtle changes to Red Alert's silhouette compared to Sideswipe. Quite a nice touch.

I'm still trying to decide which I'd rather have. I don't think I can justify owning both, but I want at least one iteration of the mold. Sideswipe is definitely the prettier of the two, but I've always enjoyed Red Alert's character more, so I might go with him to begin with and then hold out for a Hasbro release of Sideswipe.

Looks like it's just a grey prototype of the Laserbeak mold sitting upright. IIRC Buzzaw has been confirmed as a separate release, so that's probably it.



Someone on another board pointed out that there appears to be a headphone jack and an LED on the left hand side in altmode. It could simply be for decoration, but with the price bumped up to $200+ and the fact that it won't have a large accessory like a trailer I think it's fair to speculate that there might be electronics involved.

I love that Red Alert will come with spark effects that go on his "ears". This seals the deal for me. Auto Berserk is one of my favourite episodes from S2 and that reference alone is enough for me to initially pass on Sideswipe and spring for Red instead!

And it's nice to see that Soundwave is in scale with MP09, MP10 and MP11. The smaller size of Sideswipe had me worried that they'd be shrinking the entire line.
Rumble/Frenzy looks way better now that we have proper closeups of the prototype. The earlier picture made it look way to spindly to me. Super stoked about that one now!

With at least 3 upcoming high-profile Masterpiece releases, I just hope Takara have those QC routines in check so that we don't end up with another MP Rodimus rev. 1 fiasco.

Sideswipe is on early bird pre-order at HLJ for 46 € + p&p. Had to put one in even though I don't know if I will get a job by then. Well, I do have time to save up for it. Probably should've got Red Alert as that's my first figure but Sideswipe'll do too.

EDIT: Turns out that Sideswipe is going to be rather small, little over half of MP-10 Prime's size, based on the pics I've seen. We're talking close to Binaltech.

I'd say he's smaller than Binaltech. He's about the same size compared to MP10, as BT Sideswipe was to MP1. So about voyager size rather than ultra-ish.

There's a comparison pic out there with MP Sideswipe next to the vintage toy. Going by that you can see that he's going to be a "large deluxe" size. A bit taller than the "Classics" Sideswipe. He's made this size so he can fit inside the new MP Prime's trailer in vehicle form, just like the vintage toys.

The Binaltech line was in scale 1:24, while successor Alternity was 1:32. Is MP Sideswipe something right between these two?

I'm actually pretty ok with that size. The original MPs were a tad too big to my taste.

Well, that's one of the reasons I'm selling off a few Binaltech. They're mostly good looking (still) but they take up so damn much space that I need to get rid of a few to give the rest the attention they deserve. Classics are easier to have a big bunch of, even though I could theoretically start offloading those too if there's actually a proper MP line of Autobot cars coming.

I think it's time to get rid of TF Collection Soundwave now. The new one should pretty much be the ultimate version for the forseeable future.

I fully agree. While I still feel that the original MP's are amazing display pieces, they're just to cumbersome. Especially when compared to the likes of Grimlock and Rodimus who're just that much more satisfying to handle.

Anyway, I went ahead and pre-ordered MP-13 at Hlj. With their current early bird discount it works out to roughly 1100 sek + shipping (according to current exchange rates) which I don't think is too shabby.
Now if only the pre-orders for the cassettes would go up. After seeing the prototype in action at Tokyo Toy Fair (Video) there's no way I can settle for just Laserbeak.

And I'm buying those At least some of those. Actually their size is the reason why I also buy just those characters that I really like and who might also look cool in alt mode. But they sure take a lot of room and I just have to buy another vitrine by IKEA for all the new stuff I'm getting.

I did know that MP-13 is going to be a lot smaller, but it is not that bad. At least now Sideswipe is more in scale with MP-10 Prime. It is actually interesting to see, if they are making more MP autobots cars. Though they could first do a new version of Megatron and maybe Shockwave and some other news characters.

They are at the very least doing Red Alert (previewed) and Sunstreaker (confirmed but not shown) from MP Sideswipe, I think there's good potential for more new molds if Sideswipe and his retools sell well.

I don't know if this is of any real interest to anyone, but www.robotkingdom.com sent me an e-mail about upcoming Amazon Japan exclusives for MP Soundwave and MP Sideswipe/Lambor. The Amazon Japan exclusive for MP Soundwave will be two Energon cubes and the Amazon Japan exclusive for MP Sideswipe/Lambor will be two chromed pile drivers, one for each hand.

Well, its kind of both. For it might be really difficult to get and pthe price might be something ridiculous. Leather is for the box I assume, which is one reason for them to raise the price.

The word I heard was that the "Asia exclusive" is actually a separate release from a "regular" Sixshot reissue and the black & chrome one will be an Asian exclusive while the regular...well, isn't.

It's a real shame that Ravage is being packed with the red one. At $60 per set I'm not quite sure if it's worth it, but I would at least like to have the season one cassettes to go with Soundwave. As much as I'd like to have all the ones prior to TFTM, when it's $120 (from BBTS) plus shipping and import fees for what's essentially four fancy scouts, two of which I could live without, I might just have to skip them entirely.
Now, hopefully this is just a BBTS markup and the usual suspects will put them up cheaper, but I'm not holding my breath.

You can also get them from www.robotkingdom.com for $49.90, but that's still $25 a pop. Plus shipping and quite possibly tax/VAT.

I'm getting the Rumble + Ravage pack. Ravage is an absolute must and it'll be nice to fill Soundwave up. No real need for Frenzy + Buzzsaw though.

I guess it's time to sell Alternator Ravage (Jaguar version) now. No room for two of him in the main display...
