I see that ASUS will very soon launch a new portable in their Eee pad range, named "Transformer Prime". Aren't they playing it a bit close to a specific protected trademark/brand?
It's close yes, but there won't be any problems. AsRock (subcompany of Asus) had "TransFormer" for a motherboard product range and nVidia has the "Optimus" technology.

There wouldnt be any problems, and would one just advertise for the other one, no?

There isn't a problem since they operate in different markets, computers vs. toys, okay Transformers is a bit bigger than only toys but still. A branding is usually only applicable in its own segment.
