Nice. cool.gif

Hopefully this game will be as good as the first one. Definitely looking forward to see how they fit Grimlock in to the story. I have also heard something about there being Elita-1 and Arcee in the game but I can't say for sure.

The thing I loved about in the first game was that it takes place on Cybertron and gives us a change to see Cybertron and all the TF-mythology related places such as: Iacon, Kaon and the core of Cybertron (Vector Sigma) and let us interact there. I hope that this new game will also give us a more of those things and much more! Like a huge cybertronian battlefield with hundreds of enemies, explosions, wreckage and you fighting your way through them with your comrades... THAT would be awesome! Brutal robot mayhem! drool2.gif
On the other hand I want to explore cyber-cities and Cybertron more! But it is an FPS type third person shooter so maybe there's just isn't room for too much exploration. I do hope that this time we'll get the Optimus vs. Megatron fist fight that was missing from the last game or Omega vs. Trypticon that would have been awesome as well! Only the time will tell...

BTW, does that thing on the background look like Countdown?
Tformer
Oh that cover and concept art has my mouth watering! drool2.gif

I'm really glad to read that High Moon has listened to the critique that War for Cybertron received and hopefully they manage to iron most of those issues this time around. Stuff like the transformation invincibility, lack of host migration in multiplayer etc. that while they didn't completely break the game, they were niggling enough issues for many.
The third person perspective shouldn't necessarily be a hindrance for more open environments. The main issue when you open up the playing field is making sure that it's clear for the player where he/she has to go next. Which with some clever additions to the player hud shouldn't be an issue.

I'm really curios on the story as well. Seeing as they hint at that it'll take place after the first game. Which almost makes me hope that it isn't as much of a sequel that takes place directly after the first instalment, but rather takes place after Optimus and his crew has departed on the Ark. Leaving room for High Moon to focus the story on the key characters who stayed behind. Such as Blaster, Shockwave, the second season Minibots, Perceptor and the Coneheads, to mention a few. (and they could totally throw in Straxus, just to please us few hardcore Straxus fans out there. tongue.gif Imagine having a bossfight with him above the Darkmount smelting pools! evillaugh.gif )

In any case. I can't wait until 2012 and the release. I need me some more high quality TF gaming!
Lucar-tron
I am truly excited about this game and hopes that they will do things good were the last game didn't.
I really want more high quality Transformers games.

And the cover and concept art is pure awesome. ^^
MOONBASEONE
I was very surprised at how good the first WFC, even the multiplayer and survival mode. I wonder if many people still play it online?

I am actually excited to play the sequel. I think they did a pretty good job with the first. Much better than I was expecting.

AAAAAND! We have a full cinematic trailer!

Direct link

Now, if one could judge a game based on it's cinematics alone. Wow... Just... WOW! Where should I begin?

The first thing that struck me was the choice of music (The Humbling River by Puscifer). It struck me as an odd choice compared to the trailer and overall feel of War For Cybertron and at first I almost thought that it tried a little too hard to be Linking Park. But it really does help set a completely different mood throughout the trailer.
Quite a dark opening as well. Optimus carrying a severely wounded Bumblebee through the battlefield while being assaulted by Megatron's henchmen (who get brutally taken down by Ironhide and Jazz, Soundwave in particular got quite a nasty blow!). I really liked the bit where you see Bumblebees eyes flickering, that whole bit really helped bring forth that these aren't just machines and that casualties hurt more then just their numbers.
We also get the first look at Megatron's new design. Not quite as huge a leap from the first game as Optimus, I want to see more of it before I can make up my mind on it though. All I know is that I missed the fusion cannon.
By far the most impressive bit in the trailer for me though, was the Combaticons merging into Bruticus. High moon really nailed that animation! That's just what I imagine a fast paced combination sequence should be like. I can't wait to see how they play into the story!
Tformer
And now we have the official trailer. smile.gif Transformers: Fall of Cybertron Official Trailer

And along with it, the release date, 8.28.2012. So that's just another 152 days to go!
Thunderclash
Bah, no PC version this time around. So, is it good enough to warrant the purchase of the now old(ish) Xbox360 or PS3 console, just to play the game? I guess we'll find out eventually.
Lucar-tron
That's really cool. If what Knut says is true, then I hope that there will be a WiiU version. *Thinks of the possibilities of a WiiU version.* drool2.gif
DkConvoy
Look at them Unreal Engine 3 lightning effects.. sweet cool.gif

Starting to look forward to this game. Little fed up with the big triple-A titles at this point.
Thunderclash
It would seem I was wrong. Fall Of Cybertron is coming to the PC. Probably a straight console port, but hey, we're not complaining (much) wink2.gif .

Gamespot - Transformers: Fall Of Cybertron
Thunderclash
These news are 3 weeks old, but according to several gaming sites, the Fall Of Cybertron game for PC is indeed a straight console port and will be handled by a developer named Mercenary Technology (formerly Mercenary Games). This company consists of (it is said) industry veterans, but that doesn't necessarily say anything about the game being in good hands or not. It's scheduled for release on August 28th, so we'll soon found out if the PC version is decent/good or if it was just an "afterthought". I liked the original game, so I'm hoping this sequel could surpass everyone's expectations.
Tformer
Potential spoilers ahead. But we now have a list and descriptions of the achievements for the Xbox 360 version of the game (and I'm guessing the PS3 trophies will be the same). Seems like they're continuing what they started with WFC and make most of the achievements references to other pieces of TF fiction.

Tformer
Has anyone else downloaded the demo? I've been playing it quite frantically these past few days and figured I'd share a few thoughts.

The graphics are a vast improvement over WFC and the models themselves are much more detailed this time around. Something that becomes very apparent whenever you see closeups of their hands. Very nice! Texture load speed seems to have been improved as well if the demo is anything to judge by. Still not as fast as it ought to be sometimes, but nothing game-crippling.

The controls have got a bit more weight to them this time around, if it makes sense. You actually feel like you're controlling a giant hunk of sentient metal this time around yet they're still smooth and responsive. The addition of sprinting and being able to switch shooting hands adds two new dimensions to the game and they work very smoothly. Me like!

The character creator is very limited for now (understandably so) but it gives you a preview of the parts that will be available in the retail release. Some of the optional heads are very unexpected! All of the Dinobots' dino-mode heads as well as the Insecticons insect mode heads and Trypticon will be usable. And each class has a head with Starscream's crown avialable. The colour palette is a bit limited and frustrating to work with. Hopefully that will be corrected with the on-release patch that's in the works.

The actual multiplayer gameplay has been tweaked from WFC and it works pretty well in my opinion. I'm not experienced enough when it comes to MP modes in shooters, but I got into it fairly quickly and have mastered at least the Destroyer (formerly leader) class pretty well. Get a fair amount of kills and get killed every now and then. So it feels pretty balanced.
My one gripe about it though is that transforming feels way too slow and clunky with the heavier classes. Perhaps they were aiming to make you feel a bit vulnerable while transforming so that you'd think about it more? Whatever the case, I find myself transforming less often as a result and pretty much use it to get from point A to point B quickly while perhaps launching a few potshots on the way.

All in all, looks like it'll be at least as good, if not better than WFC. I'm stoked! smile.gif

If anyone wants to join me in the demo, feel free to add me on Xbox Live. My gamertag is Tformer90.
NRJohn
Just like for WFC, I will (sadly) have to stick to "lets play's" on youtube. I did WATCH the demo, and it looks very, very nice! I get the feeling the campaign will be a lot of fun, the combaticons showed plenty of character and felt like a real team or combat unit. Btw some of the music sounded like it was remixed from the Prime intro?
Customizing your character for MP looks promising aswell. As I understand it there will be no fembots this time around?
Smokescreen
I don't know, I was a bit disappointed by the demo (PS3 version). The textures load slowly and look horrible once they're there. The overall look is okay but if it hadn't been for the license, I wouldn't be one bit interested.

Bumblebee section was meh, more of the same. Vortex section was much better and had some great areas to traverse in different forms. I didn't try the multiplayer but I checked out the character creation. Meh, same old. Some more model choices and you can mix parts now, but it will look horrible with most choices unless you go for a standard set. I'm also annoyed that there is a single color set for the entire figure. I understand that there needs to be some differentiation between the two sides, but realistically you will be looking at the color of your sights to identify an enemy, not if they're purple or red. And they will be purple or red, more or less. It looks especially stupid when one of the pre-made models is Swindle and you can't make him yellow because apparently that's not a Decepticon color.

Now if I could put the Ratchet head on Jazz' body and actually use more than a single color, I could have a pretty awesome Smokescreen. But apparently that's way too much work for this game.
Tformer
I was actually surprised how comparatively fast the textures were loading, as I had read quite a few complaints about long load times. Perhaps the issue is limited to the PS3 build of the demo?

I'm with you on some of the limitations in the character building menus though. While I understand that they won't let you swap limbs however you want for the sake of keeping the four classes somewhat distinguishable from each other, heads on the other hand shouldn't be an issue. I was a bit disappointed by the limited colour palette as well as I was hoping to make a AM Thundercracker coloured scientist. They've stated that they'll expand on it with the on-release patch though, so there's still hope.
Thunderclash
So, are you ready w00t.gif ? Friday (European release date) is the day....

The Unreal Engine tends to cause pop-in textures. Not really a big deal.
And FoC is a console game afterall, so the texture streaming is to be expected with new games running on 6-7 year old hardware.
But you might be right in the fact that the 360 version loads them faster than the PS3.

Also, so pumped for Friday!
Finally managed to go Prime Mode in WFC for 360 the other day (did it on PC in the first week of launch).

Tformer
Super stoked! I'm going to get all my coursework (math... Ugh) done by Friday so I can have the entire weekend dedicated to the game. Planning on just stocking up with tons and snacks and drinks and then completely marathoning the campaign!

A little bummed that we're getting the game several days after the US though. This means I'll probably have to avoid certain boards completely until Friday in order to avoid spoilers.

I wont go near any of the major boards with a 10 feet pole until I've played the campaign either.
YouTube is also your enemy for spoilers, even in places where you dont expect it!
I remember being spoiled about Revenge of The Fallen in a completely unrelated video, several weeks before the film hit theaters..

Thunderclash
Still no movement on CDON.COM's web pages, but I guess the game won't become available before Friday 24th. I just hope they have it in stock and start shipping them out tomorrow, making sure that we receive it on launch day. But I'm not so sure that's going to happen. Fingers crossed, though.
NRJohn
A little easter-egg from the game!

From DSPGamings playthrough.
(I won't post anything else until ppl had the chance to play/watch the game them self! But I will say the campaign filled with references!)
Thunderclash
I'm beginning to think we won't get the game until sometime next week. Neither CDON.COM nor Gamezone have confirmation that the game is currently in stock and Gamezone is now listing August 30th as unconfirmed delivery date. Usually games are sent out one or two days before their release date, so this doesn't bode well for Friday or the weekend. Could be that the game is in stock and they don't want to (or aren't allowed to) shift this before the official European release date, but as the Americans already got hold of it a couple of days ago, I would find this highly unfair. One thing is certain; by buying it online, I/you now won't be getting it on the release date. Not very satisfactory, I have to say sneaky2.gif .

Update: After midnight the status changed on the CDON.COM webpage. The PC version of Fall Of Cybertron is now listed as "Temporarily sold out". Damn..... However, the Xbox360 and PS3 versions seem to be available, though.
Thunderclash
Oh, and another thing: There is now a Fall Of Cybertron Multiplayer Havoc Pack DLC listed for the PC as well through CDON.COM. The Norwegian price is NOK 69. So this means you have to pay a bit for extras.

The contents:

CREATE SOME ONLINE HAVOC
Download the Multiplayer Havoc Pack to get 5 new characters (WHEELJACK, ULTRA MAGNUS, BLAST OFF, PERCEPTOR and ZETA PRIME) for use in Multiplayer.

I had the same issue with WFC back in 2010. I pre-ordered it from Megastore, but they didn't ship it out before the release-date for some reason, so I ended up having to wait through the weekend before it arrived.
Hence why I opted for a in-store pre-order this time around. While I hate having to spend the time and money going to the nearest town with a Gamestop, it sure beats waiting even longer for it to actually be delivered.

And yeah, it's highly unfair to begin with, as well as counter-productive from an anti-piracy standpoint. I don't condone pirating games, but rule #1 for game publishers in this day and age should really be NOT pissing off half of it's customers (read: every single non-American gamer) by releasing the PAL version of the games several days after the US NTSC version. Not only does it make your company look bad, it also in some cases forces some people into downloading a cracked copy of the game, not because they don't necessarily want to pay for it, but because they don't want to miss out on community discussion or even worse, have to isolate themselves from the internet in fear of spoilers. *cough*

On a side note, turns out that Activision reset and put further restraints on the demo today. Locking the Destroyer and Scientist classes, as well as lowering the level cap to three. I understand why they did it, but it would've been nice if they could've at least waited until the game had been released in all markets first.

EDIT: Just managed to find this page on Gamestop.se by going through transformersgame.com which confirms that it's in stock and out now. Webhallen also lists it as in stock and it should apply to CDON as well. smile.gif

No versions for Nintendo DS this time? Darn! I loved the first two (War For Cybertron - Decepticons, and War for Cybertron - Autobots).

Not this time around, sadly. There's no Wii version either, which WFC technically had in the form of Cybertron Adventures. So I'm guessing Hasbro and Activision chose not to publish anything related to Fall on Nintendo's consoles and are instead giving them exclusively the upcoming TF Prime games (which are coming out on the 3DS and Wii-U, if I recall corectly).

I have a GameStop at a shopping center just about a kilometre away, but I do all my game acquisitions online due to better pricing and better availability. And I don't have to witness the store clerk manhandling the merchandise. Online you always get things factory sealed and well protected. But that was a bit off-topic wink2.gif .

I haven't played the demo. Don't want any spoilers smile.gif . I won't know if the game is decent or shite, but I'm for once (again) a gambling man. I will wait patiently, if I have to. But the vacation is almost over...

OK, hopefully we'll get an update on CDON.COM sometime during Friday. But then the game won't arrive until Monday or Tuesday next week, provided it's indeed in stock. From Sweden it usually takes two days to ship games and DVD's/Blu-Ray's here. Oh well, a good thing the British Premier League football season has started again, then wink2.gif .

I finished the campaign last night. Man, it was a blast! Very solid gameplay with some appropriately epic moments. Let's just say that my jaw was hanging wide open at more than a few occasions! Definitely the TF experience of the year for me. smile.gif

I have only beaten two chapters of the campaign, and played a bit multiplayer. And so far so do I like it. smile.gif

Finally the game arrived from CDON.COM. Pity I don't have time now to play it before Friday evening due to other commitments. Looking forward to fire it up, though thumbs.gif .

Thanks. smile.gif

I remembered today that the instruction book might have by accident ended up in the trash. But fortunately, there wasn't any food trash or any other gross trash. So I just had to get it out of there.

So, Now I'm finally able to install the game. yahoo.gif
Thunderclash
Having played through the first 3 chapters, I have to admit I really like this game. It may be heavily scripted and linear, but it's great fun nonetheless. It's a blast (pun intended biggrin.gif ). The only thing that got me slightly riled up was the PC install that suddenly found it necessary to download 4 GB from Steam before I could play it. Granted, this was to update the game with the latest fixes, but 4 GB...? The Steam download wasn't even providing a sustained rate, fluctuating heavily between everything from 0 kB to 600 kB a second. It took forever (well, a few hours)....
With this being a console port I was initially sceptical, but Mercenary Technology have done a fine job. It's responsive, it moves well (I'm running the 1920 x 1080 resolution on an old(ish) Geforce GTX295) and although cut-scenes are miles away from what Blizzard and Ubisoft (among others) put out these days, they do the job just fine. If you liked the first WFC game, then you should buy Fall Of Cybertron as well.
DkConvoy
I should probably have stuck with the PC version, but I ended up getting it for the old 360.
There are some friends I can play with on that format.

I dont sugar-coat my thoughts on the problems with a video-game, so here' goes..

Personally I think its a watered down experience, compared to WFC.

The campaign in FoC is really good, but its too scripted, like many other modern games..
When the Teletran-1 Store is fully upgraded the game becomes a walk on the beach, even on the "hard" difficulty.
Running out of ammo and dying will take some effort..
Removing co-op was also a horrible idea.

I just cant get the feel for the multiplayer. While it has a diffrent movement system and what not, Im not getting the satisfaction like I did WFC's multiplayer, which I have clocked over 100 hours in by now.

Escalation is also way too easy now with a full team.

Then we have the tecnical issues, due to the old-ass hardware of the consoles.
Frequent framerate drops and the textures of the ground/surface sometimes loads VERY slowly, which leaves to an ugly sight.
The aim-assist also seems way too magnetic, and it cannot be turned off.

And finally, we have all the disc-locked "downloadable content".
Not only characters, but apparently there's a couple of maps locked on the disc as well.
I personally wont reward developers with more money for such nonsense.
The day they finally step up and make actual downloadable-content I'll buy it in a heartbeat.

So that's all the negative stuff out of the way.
I still think its an enjoyable game, and without a doubt one of the better Transformers titles out there.
Thankfully I didnt get "hyped" for this game. That only leads to disappointment for me, usually at least.
Despite all of my ranting, then I do believe that the campaign is quite enjoyable.
Shooting tons of enemy robots is still plenty of fun, and you have a massive arsenal to do so!
And thankfully there's host migration in the multiplayer, something WFC really needed.

If I should give the game a "rating" it would be a 7/10.
Honkimus Prime
I just finished playing this with normal difficulty and I'm glad to see that FOC is actually better than rather lame WFC. They actually have improved many things and even alt modes are a bit more usable than before. Though the game itself is still scripted tunnel that you have to run and shoot through. Then again, did I expect something else. To be honest, I didn't have very high expectations, but I read some positive reviews and thus bought it.

FOC is also IMO more fun than WFC. Specially Grimlocks alt mode is really fun and I really waited to get change to play Grimlock. Though he works a bit different manner than the rest. There are also some other rather fun moments, like palying with Bruticus. I also liked to play Soundwave, for you can use Laserbeak and Rumble to cause some havoc. I think the characters were a bit more different that before, or at least they felt like that.

One major issue for me is the single player game and the fact that I most likely wont play this again any time soon. It just don't have enough "value" or anything new to play again. I think I got some rewards for campaign, but those were just one new gun and some extra credits. Campaign isn't badly written or anything, but it just isn't that captivating. It's rather lame that you can't even try escalation without connection and account. At least in Gears of war 2 you can play Horde by yourself if you like or in slip-screen mode with a friend. hmmm.gif

All in all; not a bad sequel, but it left kind of a mixed feelings. On the other hand it hand many fun moments but it is rather short and simple. Now that I have finished it, there isn't much to do with it. I rather play games like Witcher 2 or Deus Ex human revolution where you actaully might like to play it again.

3-/5
