Wow! The board just got a new look less than a minute ago! One second I'm looking at the board index, the next second I click on a topic, and then I get the all-new "movie" look! Looks good so far...

There definetely more of a "power-punch" to this new design.... meeze likeeesss

Ah, thanks for that notice. I wasn't sure if you would get the new look automatically, or if I had to "force" the change on you all from within the Admin Control Panel. I was just looking through the settings to see how to accomplish that.

In case you would prefer the old look of the board, it's easy to switch back - you have a skin selector in the lower left corner on every page.


As for the new look, there's bound to be some glitches in a few places - creating a new skin is very tedious and complicated work - so just let me know if you notice anything that's amiss, like unreadable text in a colour too similar to the background, etc. Not just here on the board, but on the website as well (yes, that has also got an overhaul).

There are a few colour choices that I'm not entirely satisfied with myself, so I may make a few adjustments over the next few weeks or so. Overall I'm quite satisfied though. I had only planned this as a temporary look (and I will probably change the default back to blue in a few months when we're passed the movie), but I think I will leave this skin in, for those who like it.

I have spotted a contrast problem already. I was wondering what the strange white dot at the bottom was, and it turned out to be the dash between the "Delete all cookies set by this board" and "Mark all posts as read" links. The actual links, being dark purple on black, are illegible.

Ha! I should have known ... Those texts caused some problems when I created the first skin as well.
They're kind of anomalous, since their functions are unique; they're not similar to anything else on the board. They just "are". I'll take a look at the bug immediately ...

On the News/front page, maybe each newsitem should get a grey background. That would both diminish the "artifacts" around the small gifs (like the emoticons and the bulletpoints), and visually seperate each item better; they kinda "blend" too much with one another now, IMO.

Good idea. I'll take a look at it. I should probably replace the bullets as well.

I'm starting to get quite fond of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). If you look at the newsitems on the front page now, you see that I've begun playing with boxes and borders in new ways. And of course here on the board I've added background patterns in many places. All this is giving me new ideas for how to create a more professional-looking website. Of course, content is a much more urgent matter, but some day ...

And CSS is quite fun to play around with. I may not be as geeky a computer nerd as you "professionals", but I do likes ta fiddle with me CSS.

Movie look is awsome, alltough I liked the old board look as well, but this is perfeckt.

To be honest, I forgot how the old look looked like!
(Okay, so my mind is extra crispy right now and I reeaally need my vacation!! )

I totally love this new layout (not that the old one was bad though,just like black and red better than blue)
But what then after the movie? Will you keep this layout(pretty please?) -without the counter,obviously; or go back to the old one?

I will probably switch back to the old one as the default look (if I don't decide to create a new one, which is quite possible provided I can find the time), but I will leave this one in as an option. Once you've selected a skin from the skin selector I think the board remembers that as your personal choice from then on.

I just noticed that some links (like the Mini-Con one in the top menu) aren't present when you use any of the other skins.

Oh, that's right. An oversight on my part. I'll look into it tomorrow or during the weekend.

You say "any of the other skins". I assume that this means that you can see the IBP Default Skin as well, thanks to your role as Board Admin. That skin is not available to regular members, and is only left in because I may want to go back and see how some features were initially rendered, so we don't need to keep that one updated with proper links.
