With half a year remaining until the movie premiere, we should agree on a place to meet to go see the movie.
Frank and Hild have already offered to accommodate us at their place in Sandnes. The problem is, Sandnes is by far too far away for us Finns. I and Inkku can barely manage it, but it will be very expensive. Turo and Sonja have already said they can't come.
Perhaps a meeting in Stockholm or thereabouts would be better? It's roughly equidistant for all of us. The only downside is that Frank and Hild can't serve dinner for us there.

EDIT:Oh, and I'm planning myself on going to Berlin very soon after the meeting. Flights back to Helsinki from Berlin are dirt cheap, but the flights to and from Stavanger are expensive. If the meeting is in Stockholm, I can come there by ship (it should be 40 € at the most, if I choose a very small, windowless cabin), and flights from Stockholm to Berlin can't be that expensive, can they?

There's a lot of restaurants, they could buy us dinner instead tongue.gif

There's little point in meeting on July 4, since the Nordic premiere isn't until August 3 (unless the date has changed again).

Now you tell me. If that's the case, I can make a regular flight from Helsinki to Berlin and back all by itself, and after that, we can have a separate meeting either at Sandes or Stockholm, whichever way works best.
**BRUTICUS**
Im upp for Stockholm if we decide that.

Both Sandnes and Stockholm is too far away from me! cry3.gif  I have the money but not the time!

I would be really happy if the meeting is in Stockholm. At least I can afford going there. tongue.gif

So far, everyone wants it to be in Stockholm. Frank and Hild, what do you think?

Stockholm sounds nice to me to smile.gif

Even Oslo would work better than Sandnes, but I'd still prefer Stockholm.
The only reason for meeting in Sandnes is that Frank and Hild live there. They could cook dinner for us.
Psychotron
Even Oslo is out of our reach, I'm afraid... I'm still gambling that do we have the money to get even into Stockholm.  It might be that we have to skip the whole event, if we're really unlucky.
But I'm not giving up yet. It's just that I know both that we've not very great income hopes for this year and we still have couple of major resource-eaters coming up in the spring...

Stockholm would be good. I guess Copenhagen isn't an option then... We REALLY want to go to NOMA restaurant... Are there any good restaurants in Stockholm? There should be, considering that the swedes almost came kinda close to beating us in the international cooking competitions once or twice . biggrin.gif

NOMA is short for NOrdisk MAt, restaurant in copenhagen that has "nordic cuisine" as a concept. They use nordic ingredients exclusively (no olive oil etc), including a ton of ingredients that nobody else uses. They have people gathering herbs etc from all over the nordic countries (Moskus ox from Greenland), some of which have never been used in cooking before. Remember those sour leaves you used to eat as a kid? They use it in the restaurant. It has received a lot of international attention, and also two stars in guide Michelin. That is a significant achievement in itself, but even more so for NOMA since they're lacking many of the commonly assumed prerequisites for michelin (like silverware or white cloth on the tables). Compared to most other star restaurants, they are also quite affordable. But you can't expect the prices where they have a guy on iceland diving for specific shellfish to be exactly cheap. Along with Paul Bocuse's restaurant in France and the sushi restaurant in Central Park, NY (yeah, the best Japanese sushi chef lives in the US...), it's on my list of "must-eat-there-before-I-die" restaurants. Too bad whale meat is illegal in Denmark, I bet they could do great things with it.

QUOTE

So are we all meeting on August 3 in Stockholm?
The calendar so far should look as follows:
* March/April: Meeting at Lars's place in Knivsta
* Late May/early June: Meeting at Inkku's place in Vieremä
* August 3: Movie premiere meeting in Stockholm

I personally have three more trips planned, so it would be nice to have definite schedules as soon as possible.
Zyking
Stockholm works well with me...heck, any place in the nordic area could work well for my part. But I have to admit that it would be preferable with either Stockholm, Copenhagen, Helsinki or Oslo or other larger cities. tongue.gif

Sunstorm suggested the "Colloseum" in Oslo, and thats not a bad suggestion, Colloseum is great. I think its main cinema still holds the title of being the worlds biggest/best ( not sure what ) fully enabled THX Cinema. It will probably do the movie great justice.

Anyway, I have to admit that I unfortunately know very little about all the different cinemas in Stockholm. Which ones are the greatest on image, sound and atmosphere? smile.gif

There might be a chance to meet up at my house. It's big enough for loads of people to sleep here, and not even too far in to town. It takes like 12-13 minutes with the commuter train. But offcourse a 10 minute walk to the trains.

Hopefully no one's allergic to cats. tongue.gif

Frank, we have a big kitchen and loads of pots and pans, so you and Hild could even cook for us all! wink2.gif

I could cook, but I would need some helpers and cleaners. Zyking: does colosseum have digital projectors? I thought they were still using 35mm.
Zyking
I'm not too sure of this, its actually been a while since last visit at Colloseum, but I think they are using the 35 mm ones. I tend to think the image quality is good enough, but I'm very interested in seeing the quality of the new projectors. smile.gif

With digital projectors you are referring to the projector upgrade project using the Sony SXRD 2K and 4K Ultra projectors, right? Its been rolled out at several places, I think one cinema in Trondheim and Filmens Hus in Oslo have gotten those installed and tried out. From what I know, they are trying them out in several cities, so far I know about Trondheim, Stavanger, Bergen, Kristiansand and Oslo. I'm guessing the Colloseum and perhaps a couple other cinemas in Oslo will get upgraded some time this year or perhaps next year. Have cinemas in Sandnes invested in any upgrades yet? smile.gif
predaking
Sandnes was second in Norway, I think - right after Bergen. They just happened to be building a new cinema when the technology was launched.

WHOA! Didn't notice this thread untill just now. Didn't know we were planning big trips again already (Lars mentioned something about the meeting at his place, but I didn't realise it was that far ahead in the planning.

I have NO idea where I'm at at those dates. I'm finishing up my dissertion, and should be handing that in in March, so I can't really allow myself to travel during that month. After that, I don't know what my job situation will be, and/or if I should move because of work etc.

But I can't really dismiss anything at this point in time either. I would LOVE to meet everyone in Stockholm for the premiere in August, but Knivsta is cutting it close, and I didn't even know about the meeting at Inkku's.

Actually, it isn't. At least not the meeting here in Knivsta. It is my strong intention to hold a meeting here, but I haven't done anything more than presenting the idea to see if there's any interest in it. It's probably better to aim for April than for March. I'm taking it slowly moving in here. I don't want to feel any pressure that I have to be ready soon, and due to shortages at the local Ikea store I haven't even got hold of all the bookcases I need yet, which means that I haven't even started unpacking all my Transformers yet.

So, I'm thinking mid-April or something like that. April 6-9 is Easter - I don't know if that would make it easier or more difficult to come here; an alternative would be the weekend after, April 14-15. Ideas, opinions?
Fighbird
Well, Easter is not an option for me because of work (won't be able to get any days off from church). sad.gif
Osku
If should be chosen from those options now, April 14-15.

Can't guarantee I'd be coming then though. sad.gif

Late March or early or middle April is fine by me.
