An advance notice: I intend to close the NTFA Forums in May 2018. The board will be removed completely, you will not be able to browse old information.

The reason is the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) from the European Union, which will take effect on 25 May. Among other things, the regulations give all individuals a stronger ownership of their own personal data, and stronger control over how it is used by others.
And while the GDPR don't directly affect the operation of forums, I have come to realize, as I'm studying the new laws in detail, that the forum and the forum software, in their current form, seriously limit my ability to fulfill my obligations to the individual users. The software lacks essential functionality for complying with potential user requests, and I would also basically have to go through every member account and every old post to make sure that we don't already have too much data on anyone, as well as send out new terms for every member to agree to, and that's way more work than it is worth - especially since there isn't much activity on the boards nowadays anyway.

Should anyone actually be interested in seeing a new version of the NTFA Forums (social media like Facebook and Twitter seems to be predominant nowadays though), please let me know in the comments. A new version would start over from scratch though.

Oh, that's a bit sad, but understandable considering the low activity. As I'm slowly drifting out of collecting again, I don't really feel a need to communicate constantly. Although it would be nice if we could get a Nordic corner on some other forum to keep track of what's happening.

It has to be said that Hasbro Nordic aren't helping the general apathy towards Transformers. TRU and BR are clogged with awful figures that are indistinguishable from knockoffs on the same shelf, while the mostly excellent Generations figures just aren't available after they killed Combiner Wars with ridiculous pricing.

Sad to see the forum go, even though I haven’t been very active.
NTFA Discord would probably be the best option as the forum successor.

I think I'd rather stab myself in the foot with a rusty nail than migrate to Facebook.

Hello,

First of all I am kind of sorry I forgot about the NTFA Forums for five years. This is probably my first post here since 2012.
I would definitely like a new forum starting over from scratch. A Facebook page simply doesn't deliver the same value and options. If it is at all possible, please start a new forum.

I also feel Discord might be a good option.

How would this Discord work? A Google search found out that it's an instant messaging and VoIP platform. If that's all it is, I feel it's an even worse choice than Facebook. Instant messaging and VoIP is real-time, I would prefer a solution where messages are kept to be read by others at their leisure.

I guess there's always Reddit.

Personally I hate it because they make you wait like 15 minutes between posts, and that's a massive pain in the ass if you have a lot of interesting topics.

I have pondered the possibility of opening up a new version of the NTFA Forums; I see that the creator of the software is about to release a new version that's better at complying with the new laws. It's still far from fully compliant, but they've started moving some of the way towards the requirements.

I see another dilemma though. Apart from Joona who checked in now for the first time in five years, and me who check in every few months or so when I have to investigate a new registration that I suspect may be a potential spammer, none of the moderators/admins have visited the board since early autumn 2016. I think it's fair to establish that at the moment we don't have a moderating team. Luckily it still seems to work; we are all veteran TransFans, and the few who still post know how to behave - but if I do start up a new version of the board it has to have a moderating team. And who would that be? As evident from several of the testimonies in this topic, few of us actually visit the board that often nowadays. Not so surprising, really; many have moved on to other things in life, and there are so many other alternatives to the old type of forums. But still a dilemma, as a board needs that moderating team.

To be perfectly honest, I think the main reason why some wish for a new version is that we have fond memories of what once was. The sad truth is that it's doubtful whether we have the member base for a new version though. I just looked at some statistics for the board activity. In the last 6 months (roughly; I'm counting from 1 July), only 14 people have made any posts, and 16 confirmed members have visited. For the last year (since 1 January 2017), the same figure is 21 members making posts, and 30 have visited.
