So, I went to see the new Tron movie last night. It left me amazed but ultimately unsatisfied.

* Plot: Sometimes great, but mostly muddled and weak. And I hate sequel baiting...

* Acting: Awesome!

* Music: One of the best movie soundtracks I've ever heard.

* Special effects: The Grid is BEAUTIFUL. Once again, a Tron movie pushes the limits of what's possible in terms of CGI. The completely CGI-made young Flynn is a good attempt but it fails miserably. Especially around the eyes and mouth. There are those telltale signs that it's not real. It works for Clu as he's a digital clone more or less mimicking a human, but it looks odd and misplaced on the "real" young Flynn. We didn't get to see enough of Tron to decide whether he was better made or not...

* Look and feel: Amazing. 'nuff said smile.gif Except that the 3D was a huge disappointment. I didn't pay 125 SEK per ticket to enjoy the 3D commercials that had more 3D in them than the actual movie...

* Novelty value: Extremely high. If you enjoyed the first Tron movie, chances are you will love Legacy as well.

Overall: Tron: Legacy is beautiful but shallow. Thrilling and exciting but unsatisfying. Storywise it doesn't really move things forward all that much. The same questions that were left unanswered back in 1982 remain unanswered today. I enjoyed the movie but it left me wanting more, and with a slightly sour taste in my mouth, if you know what I mean?

What did you guys think?

I totally agree with you Big Pete.
You basically said it all, pros (fantastic CGI) and cons (3D). I have been waiting and waiting on Tron Legacy and I was not disappointed at all.
This is one of the best movies this year imo. Just a wonderful experience, two hours when your just transported into the Grid.
The soundtrack is, as you also mentioned, probably one of the best ever. love.gif
Have seen it two times already and when it comes to Blu-Ray... drool2.gif

I loved it too! Being a huge fan of the original I had high hopes for the sequel, and I'm very pleased about it. The music is fantastic.

The only bad thing about it was the lack of 3D effects. Not really a 3D movie.
