Monday, April 24, 2006: Well there has not been much to report on the movie front lately...until now! It seems the movie is now in position to begin filming. Director Michael Bay and Dreamworks Studio runner Steven Spielberg have been spotted running around the small town of Alamogordo, New Mexico (NM).
According to a WSMR news release on the Las Cruces Sun-News Web site, "Transformers" will be filming on location on and around White Sands Missile Range and Holloman Air Force Base in late May. This site is a notoriously risky location for filming as the range can't guarantee uninterrupted filming windows as testing of real missiles may transpire. Nevertheless, DreamWorks is going forward, "making a date to film at the missile range's dune field just north of Range Road 10 and a little west of Holloman". A fake Middle Eastern village is being built by the preproduction crews, according to the release.
In addition, IGN Filmforce has learned the following actors are in talks for these roles:

There are some new rumors surrounding the upcoming Transformers movie. These new rumors are about characters that will be in the movie. Some of the names and alt modes may shock you. Exile of Joesightings.com first reported that he saw the proofs for the height ratios and color proofs. He all said that the Decepticons that would appear in the movie would be Megatron, Vortex, Scorponok, Starscream, Bonecrusher, Devastator and Brawl, while the Autobots in the film are Optimus Prime, Ironhide, Ratchet, Bumblebee and Jazz. Then today, Wonkimus_Major of Don Murphy's Message Board has claimed the following was given to him by film insiders:

"Brawl--a police car (for a chase scene)
Devastator--M1 Abrams tank (and a single bot)
Bonecrusher--Mine clearing vehicle"

Soundwave is actually called Soundbyte, and transforms from a tape deck to a 6 foot tall tin-foil(?) robot. He's referred to as "kennywave" because he's a comic relief character that constantly gets smashed - like Waspinator.

My sentiments exactly. It feels like the director is thinking "Hey, because we're making a movie, we're supposed to gratuitously change everything! Wouldn't it be cool if Prowl transformed into a Ferrari F1, Sideswipe transformed into an armoured personnel transport and Tracks transformed into a wheelbarrow? Who cares if it'll piss the fans off?"

Oh, and Devastator and Bonecrusher? Sheesh!

Until we get confirmation from more reliable sources I'll consider this to be a hoax, created to upset TransFans.
Sure, we have seen with Catwoman how the film industry can ruin a concept completely, but most other modern attempts to recreate comics characters on film have stayed very close to the source material. (Organic webshooters for Spider-Man was a huge improvement, by the way. It's not belieavable having a sixteen-year old invent mechanical webshooters. And the change didn't do anything to make the character unrecognizable).

I agree wholeheartedly with Lars - This just must be a hoax. Do you honestly think that, when for once, the makers of a film seem to care about what the fans think, that they would do something like this?
I doubt it. I doubt a fan like Spielberg, which he obviously is, would ever allow such dramatic changes (even though he doesn't call all the shots).

The only belieable info (apart from the obvious) would be that Vortex was in the film.

the rumour is coming from several sources. Reliable people claim it's confidential insider info. The deal with soundbyte is apparently that he changes from a tape deck to a 6' robot without mass shifting, and is therefore extremely vulnerable.

Transformers arrive on earth in comets as big mounds of nanomachines which scan for alt modes upon arrival.

This list is correct.

"Kennywave" is a term coined at DM.net to describe a 6 foot tall Soundwave that transforms into a sound device (without mass shifting), and who get's his head kicked off by a teenage girl.

"Kennywave" will be changed to something more aptly named, now it seems.
And Soundwave will get an offscreen mention to seperate the characters.

Soundwave will be reserved for the 2nd movie due to the uprising, to accomodate the fans while having limited means to alter the script and line-up.

The characters will not look (a lot) like their G1 counterparts.
Expect them to be hommages at most.

They managed to incorporate the organic web shooters to the comic, too and this time they didn't even need an alien symbiote to do it.

Scorponok is a giant, in terms of scorpions, and not in terms of Transformers.

This news post generated the rumour about Scorponok being a giant like his G1 self:

This is however, erroneous.
The writer, not too familiar with Transformers, only knew that a character named Scorponok was in it and then proceded to find information about Scorponok.
What he came up with is the G1 profile of Scorponok, which is not an accurate depiction of the Scorponok in the movie.

The only thing that both characters share is a scorpion-like from.
One's a leader and city sized Transformer.
The other is a minion that has a scorpion-like robot mode.

I have trouble understanding how people can really think it's less likely for someone to be a child genius than for that person to get powers from being bitten by a radioactive (or genetically manipulated) spider. We have had some people from category A in real life, but so far none from category B.

The moment they introduced the organic webbing to the comics with a badly written story that had a lame villain (not to mention horribly out of character potrayals of both Captain America and Nick Fury) was the moment I dropped Spider-Man. Just in time before they had the idiotic Gwen/Goblin revelation.
