Topic split from NordCon 2011, when and where?

Since I know that you are hungry for details, I think I can share another tidbit:

We're aiming to hold the convention in a hotel this time. Those of you who are familiar with common convention practices know some of the advantages of such an arrangement:
No more having to travel several kilometers to the convention venue, the convention should be a mere elevator ride away.
And we're also currently negotiating the possibility of offering hotel room discounts for our attendees! Note that we can't make any such promises yet, but it is our goal.

Stay tuned for more details! And if you have access to Facebook, know that you can follow the updates in our NordCon group there as well!

Great. Vacation has been arranged so I have a week I can take anywhere in september-october and I don't need to fit the rest to the convention. Staying tuned. Hotel sounds fine, that takes care of lodging problems even if it's potentially a little more expensive. And the comfort is well worth it over sleeping on a couch or on the floor like my last two meetings biggrin.gif

Thanks! But it seems you have some great things coming up yourself. I just saw your most recent teaser where you speak about an announcement that will "change Auto Assembly forever". Sounds rather huge. Not too huge I hope; you might make our ideas look miniscule in comparison. wink2.gif

Oh, I thought we had already established that - it will definitely be Sweden, and almost certainly in the Mälardalen region.
Not in Nyköping though. Main reason is that we want a place that one of us is familiar with and has easy access to, but it also turned out that in spite of the airport and the Ryan Air presence, the city has too poor connections. The airport can in fact be completely disregarded, as there's only one domestic route (to Visby on Gotland), and no other routes to destinations within the Scandinavian region.
Mälardalen on the other hand...

Just got confirmation that I'm free to go any given time. (I got myself a place to study at the University of Vaasa) So I'll be able to come to the AA: Europe! cool.gif

It is going to be held during 2011, right?

I must say that I'm quite impressed with how patient everyone is. smile.gif
It's about a month since we said that "details are coming very soon", a goal that obviously wasn't fulfilled.
But the wait is almost over, and the official announcement will be made any day now!

Why has it taken us so long to reveal the date and place? There's a very good reason for this.
We did in fact change both the hotel and the date a couple of days ago. We were ready to make the official announcement some three weeks ago (after some slooow communication with our original hotel; due to vacations and stuff it took a long time getting the all the details in place, especially since we had to talk to 3-4 different people), when we suddenly ran into some obstacles:

Two of the guests on our wish list turned out to be unavailable that weekend, and we started getting indications that our date clashed with that of another convention. We weren't able to identify the other convention right away, so we decided to wait a couple of days to learn more. A smart decision it turned out, because when the other convention revealed itself it turned out to be a rather major one.

So considering these two obstacles, plus the time we had lost in the communication with the hotel, we decided that it was best to move the date (and in doing so, we also switched to another hotel). And this time things go much smoother. It seems to work out very well with the hotel, one of the guests is pretty much confirmed, and there are no clashes with other conventions that we are aware of. happy.gif

So just a few more days, and then we're open for business. smile.gif

That's good to hear. I've been planning another trip for this year and I don't want it to clash with AAE.

Will the announcement be released next week or during this week?
