and here's the movie concept for Blackout. (yes, that toy was simplified!)

I can't decide whether I actually like the design aesthetic, but those toys look mindblowing!

Can't say I like Starscream. I've always said Transformers is about changing, and his robotic mode sure is a change from what we're used to, but having such a prominent (?) character looking like a techno-gorilla rather than the usual humanoid form is a weird move. I find Transformers less-appealing when their robot modes are this far from the usual "two arms, two legs and one head" look.

I shall dub him "Primal Starscream". The others look great, but I'm having doubts those designs will work good as toys.. But I sure hope they will. Prime is okay, kind of reminds me of that abandoned idea of Trans-Tech..

About the Moive appearance. Once TransFormers were known for their appearance in robot mode where you had some kind of idea what they would transform into.... these movie characters in robot modes look like a pile of giant walking scrapmetal with pieces attached to them. You can't tell what they're really are supposed to represent by their robots modes... this is violation to the original concept IMO - I'm so disgusted ! angry.gif
They more look like something from Terminator all bare without plating covering them... damn I'm so dissapointed.

These designs are not what I hoped to see, but most of them are growing on me already. Starscream is pretty much the only one I hate, because I think Starscream shouldn't look like a big muscular (or whatever TFs have instead of muscles) brawler.

Not sure if I'll buy any of the toys (Scorponok and Prime have a good chance here, though), but this won't stop me from seeing the movie.

Nice. They all look like crap.
I don't care do they look at all like their "real" namesakes or not, for me it's all the same. But those... things look horrible. Whatever they look like, they don't look like Transformers. Maybe 2000AD's ABC Warriors, or something, but definately NOT Transformers.

I think there's one tiny change that would make it far easier to accept these designs: Give the characters their regular faces and heads.
A Starscream with a Waspinator-like head is not Starscream. Put Starscream's original head there instead, and the toy immediately becomes much more recognizable.

I agree, it would make them more recognizable, especially if one seeks G1 out of them. But I meant that the whole bots don't look like Transformers at all, but some other robots, "just" robots. One thing is that from a distance they look like pile of scrap metal with arms and feet, and then there's this thing with everything being hidden too well. They simply don't look like that they even have an alternate mode, and that's one of the characteristic things that make them what they are.
And yeah, Psych's on another whining tour, but still...

Yep, you sure are. But this time I share your view. wink2.gif

I do realize that there must be changes, that certain things don't work as well in a live action movie as they would in an animated one, but... I think they're taking it a bit too far. While the designs look somewhat cool, it feels to me like they've tried TOO hard to make them look realistic and "mature". But there's nothing realistic about this concept in the first place. tongue.gif

But hey, it could still be a good movie (though I have my doubts), even if it doesn't have the right Transformers feeling. I guess I'll just wait and see before I pass judgement.

The filmmakers sure are brave though, knowing that hardcore G1 fanatics will be out for their blood after this.

"First impressions last" is what they say, and I must say that I'm not overly impressed. But I won't speak too soon. We don't know how these guys are "live" on the big screen. You have to take into account that the CGI people can't make the 'bots look any way they want to, since they must be able to transform them in a realistic way, something the cartoon makers often took shortcuts with.

How good do you guys think our chances would be with an NTFA advertisement?
