Time to present a new competition for Auto Assembly Europe - and this one is open to everyone in the Nordic countries, regardless of whether you're attending or not! (all registered attendees, regardless of where they live, can also participate)

On a suggestion from our celebrity guest Simon Furman, we have decided to arrange a Fanfic Competition, with the entries to be judged by Simon Furman himself during the AAEurope weekend! The winning entry and a few runner-ups will receive nice prizes, and the winning entries will also be published in our post-convention magazine (see below).

Rules:
  • Participation is open to everyone living in the Nordic countries, as well as already registered attendees from non-Nordic countries.
  • Entries must be written in English.
  • Entries can be either written or drawn (or both) - maximum 1000 words for prose text, or three pages (15 panels) for a comic.
  • Send your entries so that I have them no later than Friday November 11, preferably by e-mail to groundsplitter@autoassemblyeurope.eu, or to my regular address (send me an e-mail for the address). Digital images should preferably be scanned in 150 dpi or better. Posted contributions will be returned to you if you cover the postage costs.
  • Limit one entry per person.
  • The judge's decision is final and cannot be overruled.
Auto Assembly Europe post-convention magazine:
A few weeks ago we asked whether there was any interest in producing another convention magazine, featuring articles and the Nordic TransFans artwork and other creations. The interest in the comic has been relatively high, but to save money the AAEurope committee has decided to scrap that idea in its original form this year. Instead we will be doing a post-convention magazine that will be made available shortly after the convention!

The post-convention magazine will feature reports and photos from the convention, at least one looong article (by Fighbird), the Nordic Transformers fans' artwork (as per the original idea), the winning entry/entries in the fanfic competition mentioned above, and perhaps even more!

Like last time, as an added incentive to participate, we will also award a prize to one or two entries! So this gives you a second chance to win something even if you are unable to attend!
The winner(s) will be determined by the AAEurope organization committee, and be announced in the post-convention magazine.

Basic rules for contributing to the magazine:
  • Participation is open to everyone living in the Nordic countries, as well as already registered attendees from non-Nordic countries.
  • We accept drawings/artwork, photos, photocomics, fanfics, etc. Entries should naturally be related to Transformers, and to play things safe it's probably best to avoid crossovers with characters from other franchises. Exceptions may be granted though, especially for photocomics (where the occasional figure or vehicle from another toyline does little harm as long as they don't have a large role).
  • Entries should preferably be written in English. Fanfics should preferably be relatively short, maybe two pages at the most in printed form (that's about 1000 words, as above). We won't automatically disqualify somewhat longer fanfics for the magazine, but the longer it is the greater the risk that we can't include it.
  • Send your entries so that I have them no later than Friday November 18, preferably by e-mail to groundsplitter@autoassemblyeurope.eu, or to my regular address (send me an e-mail for the address). Digital images should preferably be scanned in 150 dpi or better. Posted contributions will be returned to you if you cover the postage costs.
  • No absolute upper limit to how many entries you contribute, but we will have to draw the line somewhere, so say about three in total.
  • We reserve the right to refuse any entries. Since the magazine will reach a large number of people of various ages and various tastes, we will not accept anything offensive. That includes sex, nudity, gore and excessive violence.
  • We also reserve the right to edit fanfics for spelling and legibility (adding paragraphs, etc.), and the right to change the size, trim or edit images.
  • All entries will be labeled with the creators' names, to make it clear that you retain ownership of your own work.
Naturally the format of the magazine primarily lends itself towards artwork and fanfics, but if you want to contribute in some other way, maybe with photos of your kitbashes or displays, or maybe some article of your own, you are very welcome to contact me with your idea!

I'm guessing the 15 panels for the comic can have different layouts and stuff? We're not set to 15 equally large and shaped panels?
I hope I can contribute something this year as well, not sure what I'll manage to complete though. Hopefully something at least, and might be fun to try out the comic thingy.

Absolutely. As long as you also stick to the three page limit it won't be a problem. So if you want to structure it as 10+4+1 panels for instance, go ahead. smile.gif

That's a good question. I don't think the resolution and the proportions matter at all to our judge, but if we consider the post-convention magazine it is optimal if you adhere to the A-scale format (i.e. A4 or A5), and aim for a resolution of at least 150 dpi. Other sizes and resolutions will still be accepted though.

We haven't actually decided exactly what page size we will go with for the magazine yet - that decision depends on such matters as what contributions we receive, and how much material we have to publish (and, if we decide to make it a printed publication, what prices the printer can offer). But I think we can say for certain that it will be either A4 or A5.
