I was looking through some videos of different conventions held in the USA. They have conventions for every series, well except the Go-Bots. We have had two major TF conventions here in the Nordic region thanks to our hardworking people here at the forum. They have but together two major events that brought together a lot of TF fans and people interested in their childhood memories. I was wondering if we could bring even more people together from many different fandoms? Could there be potential for some sort of a "80s expo" here in the Nordic region? Combining different series and their fans could prove to be quite exciting. Could it be possible? Would there be a general interest for such happening? Is there organized communities here in the North for any other series than TF? That's not a bad idea in itself. It has been done in other countries; there is for instance one convention in the UK which focuses on both Transformers and G.I. Joe. One potential advantage with such an arrangement is that it should be easier to find a good number of people who are enthusiastic enough and capable of organizing a convention, and also more personel/helpers. I think that a combined convention/expo would have to include fandoms that are reasonably equal though, so that one doesn't outshine the others. Imagine a Star Wars/Transformers convention for example - there's a huge risk that the Transformers fans would make up a minority, and the convention would have too little time and space for Transformers. Similarly, other smaller participating fandoms might have the same concern that TFs will overshadow their interest, of course. I'm not aware of any communities for other fandoms though, since I've only concerned myself with Transformers. I'm fairly sure that there's no Nordic community for G.I. Joe though, otherwise my youngest brother would most likely have known about it. -------------------- E-mail address: groundsplitter@ntfa.net

Well, here we have scifiworld who hold conventions several times a year. I've visited the one in Stockholm and Malmö and they are quite good and diverse. Perhaps dominated by Star Wars but plenty of other stuff. Toys, figures, sci-fi fantasy T-shirts and celebrities. Not much transformers though...in theory a couple of collectors could come together for a dealers table?
The only other "community" I've stumble across was a swedish Lego forum. This post has been edited by NRJohn: 17 November 2012, 19:46 |
