WOW!

That sums up my impressions quite nicely. My hopes had risen during the past few weeks as the final trailers were unveiled, but I am very happy to say that the movie exceeded my expectations by far.

- Worries that it would be a "let's go USA" like ID4 were completely unfounded. I can't possibly see how such a view could be surmised from the events in the movie. If anything, the message is "governments can't be trusted - we need real heroes".

-The script is really, really good. No plot points seem contrived. It all fits together well with enough unique twists to keep it interesting without straying too far from the cliched superhero roots that are so important (gotta have a love interest etc).

-Worries about the humour of bumblebee speaking through the radio, frenzy being a comic relief character etc were unfounded. The general pacing of the film was excellent, and the humour was very well presented. There was a very bizarre moment of "body" humour that may be considered juvenile, but it was delivered in such a crazy way that it should work for almost anyone.

-As was promised by Tom DeSanto a long time ago, the movie really does feel like a return to the magical larger than life adventure style of movie that was so succesful in the eighties in films like the last starfighter and gremlins that is very succesful. An extended sequence where the autobots try to hide from some humans stands out in particular.

-It is obvious that the robots needed to have as many moving parts as they did to seem believable. Practically every design worked really well. But I wish Jazz and Prime had the visor and faceplate, respectively, active at all times.

Now I'm going to say a few negative things. Um let's see....

Megan Fox is a crap actress. There are some plot holes if you're the kind to over-analyze the events in a fantasy movie. The only decepticon with any sort of characterization is Megatron (although it can be argued that it is a good thing for a new audience).

some words about my taste: I like: Spider-Man and X-Men 1&2 - not the 3s. F4 as well, but not Hulk. Otherwise, my film taste leans toward the inventive critically acclaimed stuff like eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, groundbreaking classics like hitchcock's films, and not "obvious" stuff like Brokeback Mountain and Armageddon.

I pretty much agree with everything you said. ( Except that I liked X-Men 3 as well as 1 and 2. )

You have covered some of the points I were concerned about pretty nicely, so I wont waste space commenting them much more. tongue.gif

Personally I think this movie reaches out to a lot of people, it goes the extra mile and beyond the call of duty.

I'm not saying that its free of any faults or doesn't have elements that could be better, but they are so minor or downright trivial that it doesn't matter at all in the end.

This movie will be a classic, I'm quite sure of it. Like ET, Gremlins, Star Wars, Aliens, Close Encounter, Superman etc etc classic.

I give it a solid dice 6, hands down. party2.gif

It is FAR better than the 1986 movie, there is just no comparison at all. A more sensible question would be "is this better than the X-men and Spider-Man series"?

My answer is: yes, it is.

Something I forgot to mention is that Shia LeBouf turned out to be a surprisingly good actor. The movie would definately not have been the same without him. John Turturro also does a marvellous job, but I knew he was good. Jon Voight is a little "meh", but his part wasn't really demanding.

I don't think you can compare TFTM 86 and TransFormers just like so. They're targeted at different audiences and many more things. But TFTM 86 still has the epic Optimus Prime vs Megatron Battle and some quotes people never forget... also the music is great. TFTM 86 is in it own league.... but i can't wait to see TransFormers biggrin.gif

Yeah, music is good, with a solid and (IMO) very nice orchestral theme in the classic romantic genre used in most motion pictures these days, and some solid rock tracks here and there -- none, possibly one with lyrics as well.

I basically agree with Frank on his review. smile.gif

I just came home after watching it a second time. I had trouble following some of the extremely fast action due to the complex designs of the robots and the insane stunts they pulled, but I got a lot more out of it with the second viewing. You shouldn't put too much concern over my words about Megan Fox as a bad actress either. In fact, I think everybody was well casted. Sam's mom is a hoot. One might say that the black characters were somewhat stereotyped, but that is too common in Hollywood to be a serious issue with a film of this caliber.

a spoiler, do not read if you haven't seen it:
I didn't think of it yesterday, but the Allspark mass shifted! Coupled with the scene with the autobots failing to hide as cars, I'm starting to think that Megatron learned the mass shifting ability when he was fused with the allspark, and he decides that transforming to a gun might be a good idea in the next movie. Or at least make Soundwave.

I've just come home from the Cinema where I was for 2hrs 20min. An I must say all my scepticism has been put to shame !. I'm so close to call it a masterpiece but i wont, but I will say its FANDAMNTASTIC wub.gif , I enjoved every single second of it. It has a great balance between humor, action, seriousity.... and I think Bay did a great job to create a new universe that still shows high respect to it's ancestors in Generation 1..... I so highly highly highly recommend watching it ... I can't get my hands down. Even my brother who is a 0 TransFormers fan admitted that it was awesome and might awake his interests in TF's.
Go Bay !

You can compare this movie with the 86' version, both are in their own league. The 86' movie has some elements I missed in the 07 movie.

Spoiler - don't read if you haven't watched it... else it's your own fault:
In the danish translation Brawl is called Devastator !?!
And what happened to Barricade and Scorponok ?
Why did Jazz have to get killed sad.gif
