I sat here I wondering about how you can receive a higher Member group status than Members, for example Moderators, Administrators, Reporters and Sponsors cc_confused.gif

Are there any special criterions cc_confused.gif

I hope anybody can give me an answer. happy.gif

To become a sponsor, simply donate Lars some money.
The other groups are a much more complex matter. You can become a moderator or reporter if you continue to make useful contributes to the NTFA Forums for several months, and show willingness to help in the staff's duties. Becoming an Administrator is, I'm sorry to say, currently unlikely for you. Administrators are usually founding members of the NTFA, and have been involved in helping the site for several years.

What Joona says is correct, but there is one thing that should be clarified: nobody has yet (that I know of) asked for a "promotion" and received it. If your behaviour on the boards seems suited for handling the relevant tasks (and help with the subjects is useful), you will be asked whether you want a change of status.

Examples: how my status was changed. I was asked to become a moderator of the TF market section since others felt I had a well deliberated view on what constitutes good trading etiquette, and the experience needed to deal with problematic trading sitatuations.

In my first few years of renewed TF interest, I was also very active browsing other sites, and reported news that were considered of relevance for nordic TF fans I found elsewhere in a proper manner (using references etc). When my interest in reporting news started to fade, other members were chosen for the task.

Finally, I became an administrator when a special "staff" forum was created with the primary goal of getting a group of people together to discuss the transition to a new board. Since I was the most active long-standing member from Norway, I was asked to do the job (one from each nation was chosen).

Well, Sponsor you become by contributing money to the operation of the website, as you for instance did last year. (I'm actually looking for a good opportunity to remove/demote all current sponsors; I'm planning to replace it with a new sponsorship with more interesting features, like for instance the right to upload your own attachments to the board).

The other three groups are completely arbitrary, to be honest - these people have been appointed simply because I or we (the admin group) have felt that there is a need for another person, and because we believe that the person chosen will do a good job. Good, responsible, and competent behaviour on the boards is a necessity.

Reporters is actually a group that will soon be discontinued. The functionality of the Front Page News forum will change, and I'm working on a solution which will allow the Admins and Moderators to approve any topic for inclusion on the front page. When that modification is finished, the English Transformers forum will be split in two - one forum for news (where anyone can start a new topic, and it may end up on the frontpage), and one for other Transformers discussion.

I can't say anything definitive now, but I suspect that we will need to recruit a few more moderators later this summer, after the film has opened. Hopefully there will be a large influx of members at that time, and then there may be too much job for seven people. When that happens, the staff will discuss which people we feel would be suitable for that job.
Having said that, I want to add one more thing to keep in mind: Asking to become a moderator does not help; quite the opposite in fact. smile.gif

Lars and Frank put it very well. I would have said that it would help to become a moderator not to ask to, but I was too kind to be so blunt. I only myself became an administrator because I have been an NTFA member for years, and I know Lars personally. Of the current members, there are very few whom I consider worthy of becoming moderators, let alone administrators. Possibly two or three, if even that many.
I can't say how the current administrators were decided, because I was not involved in the discussion, but Bigpete was promoted to moderator based on an administrator-only discussion, where we felt his year-long involvement and willingness to help was worthy of a recommendation.

I see.

But I hope nobody of you think my attention to ask the question was that I wanted to get ha higher Member group status, because that was never what I have in mind. wink2.gif I just ask of general interest and now I have got the answer, thanks guys for the help. wave3.gif

To be honest, I don't really care if I am a Member, Sponsors, Reporter, Moderator or Administrator, as long I am a part of this forum and can come here and discuss Transformers and other things with you guys everything is great. happy.gif

I wouldn't be so harsh. You can create different kinds of moderators with different responsibilities. Moderating a single forum doesn't have to be so difficult, and there are many people here that I could consider as single-forum moderators. It would be good training for higher duties at some later point. smile.gif
