Getting tired of endless searching on ebay for over 1 year and some months for Nightbeat's helmet/set and not wanting to buy a new complete one, because mine was almost complete and very mint just missing the helmet/seat, I decided to make my first custom TF part.

Nightbeat without helmet.

With helmet.

Thanks to Vector Sigma and some free styrene sample I was able to make my own helmet. It's not 100% accurate to the original but it's good enough for me. The helmet sits nice and tight and doesn't fall off smile.gif Now I just need to find some suitable blue colour for it.

And yes it also functions as seat smile.gif

Damn thumbs.gif

You actually made this out of those thin layers I sent you? Thats a high level of craftmanship.
Dont know what this helmet looks like originally, but it looks awesome the way you made it:)

KUDOS tongue.gif

Ps for colours: maybe a basic blue, enlightened with white, plus just a slight tint of emerald green?

WOW! That's incredible work for (what I take is) your first experience with styrene. Simply incredible... and it's pretty close to the original as well!

Thank you both of you biggrin.gif

Yes I made it all out of the styrene sheets Vector Sigma sent. I just made it layer by layer before I used sandpaper to round it on all areas. Then I took the drill to drill the "ear" wholes for the guns to attach to.
It's my first experience with styrene, but I have worked with plastic-parts a lot before and making custom parts and accessories for my aircraft modelkits.
Working with the styrene wasn't that hard, but getting the sandpaper and other stuff to make it was a bit difficult to find - especially a drillbit that would work. I had one 2mm but since the guns are 3mm in diameter i had to work the drill around a bit.
As "cement" i used Loctite Super Attack - the good thing is that when it glues it REALLY glues - the down side is you have one attempt because it dryes very very fast.
It took me around 4hrs to make since it's all done by hand.

Nightbeats original helmet is like this

Minerva's - essentially the same helmet.

I know mine doesn't have the guns attached to the very bottom of the helmet, but I just felt it look a but unnatural for him to be wide at the neck. Also the sides on mine is a bit longer forwared because I wanted to hide all the detail from the "robot-head" when folded.
Although they look similar mine isn't 100% accurate - I made what I could with the tools I had available - If I had a dremel and some other stuff it could have been better smile.gif

There's still a bit work in progress on the helmet.
I decided that I would make it a cross between the toy and the comics helmet, so I added some small front "horns" like the comics version.

If you're going to paint it up anyway, I suggest that you get some Putty to fill in the gaps, and some "1000 corn" sandpaper to make everything really smooth.

Dang, now I want to do one of my own... tongue.gif

Ya the gaps I actually filled with Loctite Super Attack. It's all clear so that's why it looks like there are gaps eventhough there aren't any. I had some corn 800 sandpaper laying so I've used that and the surface is nice and smooth, but it's not good if it's too smooth because then the paint won't bind as effectively to the surface. I've been flatening the top a bit to match the toy and comic helmet some more.
Well ok... a sneak peak.

Well finally I managed to find two acrylics which I could blend. One Gameshop Turquoise (Turquoise Hawk) which originally is for War Hammer figures and one light blue acrylic with light clear finish I found in a hobby shop.
Actually the front "horns" I have painted in light blue, but the flash hinders it's appearance. I know it isn't perfectly flat and even and there are some gaps n' bumps... but oh well - that's weathering and battledamage biggrin.gif overall I'm satisfied with the result considering I didn't have proper tools/material for it.

So how does the overall job match with Nightbeats colour ? you be the judge of that !

Now the helmet will have to dry 24hrs so I'm sure it's all perfectly dry before I mount the helmet on the head smile.gif

PS. If you look closely you might on the last picture see the little colour variation between front horns and the helmet colours.

If you can supply me with some styrene thick sheets, then I'd be happy to try to make some - but you'd have to paint them, I'm out of yellow pinch.gif tongue.gif

Very good, Niels! It could pass for the original!
(It is the original)
Can anyone catch that reference?
