The convention registration form is still a few hours away, but I think we can give you the information on how to book your hotel rooms right away:

The hotel is, as you should already be aware, Clarion Hotel Gillet at http://www.clarionhotelgillet.com (in English) and http://www.clarionhotelgillet.se (in Swedish).

They have reserved a good number of rooms for us, which are guaranteed until October 14. Plenty of rooms, but you still shouldn't wait for too long since there's no guarantee that they will have any additional rooms once the reserved ones are gone.

The discount code, which is 51565, is good for "moderate" single bed rooms and "standard" double bed rooms - those are the two simplest varieties, naturally.

The "moderate" single bed room will cost you 730 SEK/night with the discount code, and
the "standard" double bed room will cost you 1100 SEK/night with the discount code.

To book the room, using the discount code, you need to either call them or book your room via e-mail. Make sure to supply the code 51565 so that they know what it is about. It might be a good idea to actually ask them to verify that this means that you get the discounted room.
While the hotel does have a system for booking the room via the website, unfortunately it doesn't look like it's set up to accept the discount code. So you will have to book over phone or e-mail.

And of course, we're talking about the weekend 12-13 November.

BigPete just pointed out a question that I realize that I don't know the answer to yet - do the rooms have to be paid in advance or only when you check out? I will have to inquire about that tomorrow; it hadn't occured to me to ask about that, and there's no info on it in the contract I got from the hotel.

I'd think that you pay either when checking in or checking out, not when booking at least. Then again, most of the time I've been in hotels someone else was paying biggrin.gif

Yes, when you check out usually. However, at least some hotels choose ask that you give them your credit card number in advance and reserve the estimated amount on your card just as a precaution. That happened to me when I went to Aalborg last year. On the other hand BigPete says that it wasn't the case for him, even though it was the same hotel...

I don't know for definite what nights I will be staying yet or when I am booking but I might need a roommate to try to keep my costs down.

I am probably going to spend two nights at the hotel, from Saturday to Monday. It looks like Vmv-81 is coming to the convention too, so I can possibly share a room with either him, you, or both.

Because of the distance I will be travelling (and the fact that I'll be helping out all weekend!), I'll probably be needing a room for Friday, Saturday and Sunday night... and probably a local tour guide as well! hehehe

Some info for you that hasn´t booked your room yet. I made my booking today and it went smoothly. The discount code worked and I got a single room for 730 SEK.

You can check in right after lunch, at around 13-14 o´clock.
You pay when you check out and the time for checkout is 12 o´clock.
I you give them an e-mail adress, they will send you a confirmation of your booking.
I didn´t need to give them any creditcard number when I booked.

The only thing now remaining, is counting down the days until AutoAssembly Europe 2011.

Thanks for the information, wax! That's very useful, especially the bit about them not needing your credit card.

I just got an email from the hotel. They've asked me to send my credit card information over email.

You can say alot about me, but Im smart enough not to give away my cc info in a mail..

Think I could call them over phone and book my room instead?

Absolutely, phone is one of the options.

As for why you have to provide your credit card info, while wax didn't... I have been pondering that question: maybe the hotels have a policy of asking foreigners to provide their info, while the domestic citizens won't have to? It's more difficult to track down foreigners in case of problems, so perhaps it's a safety measure? Just a guess... It still doesn't explain Aalborg in 2010 though, where I had to provide my credit card info, while BigPete didn't.

Phone it shall be then.

I didnt mean to boil up a negative atmosphere with my last post, but I've learned the core rules of safety online years ago, so giving my cc info away in a mail is a no-no for me at least.

I just sent the hotel an e-mail asking to book a room with two separate beds for two nights. I didn't give them my credit card number. Let's see if they reply.
